Create a historic maritime seashell collage in a handmade cherry box
With respect to traditional techniques, students will have the opportunity to learn the skills needed to create this specific eight-sided Sailors Valentines star pattern. You will be taught a new three-dimensional technique that will add interest to the traditional Sailors Valentines. The pattern leaves opportunity for individualized personalization. Participants will be provided with an 8” handcrafted, octagon-shaped cherry box, seashells, and the tools and instructions necessary to create this prized keepsake.

SUZANNE MARIE DIETSCH is a multi-time first place and best-in-show recipient in the most competitive shell competitions in the country: Philadelphia, Sarasota and Sanibel. She is known for her creative, three-dimensional approach to this craft. Her goal is to honor the nautical folk-art history of Sailors Valentines while creating a more personal, contemporary spin to this treasured 1800’s art form. Suzanne has a deep appreciation for nature’s artistry and enjoys the intricate, mosaic expressions that can be created with seashells.
